My Role
Our goal was to assist Alaska Storytellers in improving their business and identifying strategies to attract more customers. As a relatively new company, founded within the past three years, there are still several opportunities for growth and expansion. We aimed to pinpoint the areas where their business could be strengthened and offer actionable suggestions to turn these weaknesses into potential strengths.

What I've learned
This project has been a valuable learning experience. It has been fascinating to explore qualitative data, discover various methods for collecting it, and understand how to use it to enhance a business. I have gained a deeper understanding of strategies like triangulation and developed more effective interview techniques that will be useful in the future.
Working with a newer company allowed my team and me to examine several aspects of the business, identifying areas for improvement and ways to increase efficiency. This project has not only helped me refine these skills but also given me the confidence to apply them in a professional setting. I now appreciate the significant role qualitative data plays in driving business growth and performance, and I am excited about the opportunity to help improve your business.
Experience Design Principles Used
Observation
In this project, I adopted an observational approach focused on the participants' perspective, using a "rose-colored glasses" lens to view their experience positively. By immersing myself in their point of view, I gained deeper insights into their journey, which allowed me to gather valuable data. This approach helped me identify areas for improvement and implement positive changes to enhance their overall experience.
Empathy Interviews
We conducted interviews with participants to gain a deeper understanding of what they enjoyed and what could be improved in their experience. These conversations provided valuable insights and revealed perspectives we might not have considered, allowing us to make more informed decisions and enhance the overall experience.
Triangulation
We employed triangulation to gather diverse data by using multiple methods of information collection. In this project, I utilized the photo collage method to present images to our focus group, allowing us to see their unique interpretations. This approach provided valuable, unbiased data, particularly in contrast to insights from the company owners, who may have had their own biases. By using different techniques, we ensured a more well-rounded understanding of the participants' perspectives.
